More than 10 years ago, Leo was very sick with asthma. As a last resort for medical intervention Leo was referred to Dr. Richard Costello in Beaumont Hospital. It took 18 months to get the referral. In the meantime, Leo found the Buteyko Breathing Method. It had just arrived in Ireland and was being taught by Patrick McKeown at The Buteyko Clinic. Leo corrected his breathing and started the Buteyko exercises every day. Within 12 months, Leo became free of asthma symptoms. When he did get to see Dr. Costello, the doctor permitted Leo to gradually come off all his medication. In 18 months, Leo was asthma symptom and medication free.
Since that time more than 10 years ago, Leo has dedicated his life to finding methods which work efficiently at improving people’s health naturally. He has obtained a Master’s from UCD, worked with the world renowned Irish Strength Institute and interned with one of the best MD’s in the USA – Dr. Eric Serrano. Alex Reid BA HDip Lic en Philo (Leuven)
Alex learned Buteyko Breathing techniques when he was affected by ‘late-onset’ asthma some years ago. He applied the exercises rigorously and successfully on reading Patrick McKeown’s books. He has since gone on to qualify as Practitioner under Patrick’s tutelage in London. In his teaching career Alex was struck by the increasing number of young people over the years who suffer from asthma and actively encouraged physical activities like hill-walking and orienteering as antidote to modern sedentary habits. He is now promoting correct breathing and diet to supplement exercise and improve health and well-being.
Alex who resides in Donegal Town provides Buteyko clinics in the North-West and is also available to Schools, Sports Organisations and Staff Meetings to help bring the benefits of Buteyko Breathing to all groups and individuals in the area.
Dingle based, Muiris Ferris suffered from insomnia and chronic fatigue since he was very young. During his search to deal with chronic fatigue, Muiris tried a multitude of vitamins and minerals, B12 injections, Live Cell therapy, Ozone therapy, Chelation therapy, Transcendental Meditation plus TM Siddha programme. However, none of these approaches addressed Muiris’ chronic fatigue and insomnia.
Muiris first learned about buteyko after he read a newspaper article which gave an account of how the Buteyko Breathing Method cured an individual with Chronic fatigue. By checking online, Muiris was able to locate Eoin Burns- a very good Buteyko practitioner in Kerry and attended a four session course with him.
Straight away, Muiris had a good feeling about the Buteyko Method, and the proven science behind it. Furthermore, he was receiving the practical tools to deal with his condition. With continued and sustained practise of the exercises, Muiris received results pretty quickly. Sometimes progress was slow, but always steadily improving all of the time. Within six months, the fatigue which Muiris for forty years was reduced by at least 70%, the pains in his joints and night sweats disappeared and he no longer felt cold all of the time. His sleep quality also considerably improved.
As each month goes by, Muiris continues to improve – so much so that he decided to train with Patrick McKeown, and become a Buteyko practitioner himself. Muiris will be teaching Buteyko in Dingle, Co Kerry.
