Martha DowneyButeyko South Dublin

Martha Downey de Buitleir. RGN, RNID, DIPBBM is a Registered Nurse with many years experience working with patients suffering from chronic illness, and Cancer. Martha has worked abroad in London and Australia and is currently working in Our lady’s Hospice in Dublin.

There are three pillars to good health, exercise, good nutrition and good breathing habits. A lot is known about the benefits of exercise and nutrition but generally people underestimate how important it is to breathe well by day and night. The Buteyko Breathing programme focuses very much on how you breathe by day and night. It is not difficult to change and the exercises are user friendly!

Martha has experienced first hand the positive impact Buteyko breathing has on a patient’s health and wellbeing. She achieved  Diploma in Buteyko Breathing under the tutelage of Patrick Mc Keown in 2016 and is committed to teaching the programme and increasing awareness of how breathing impacts on health and wellness  and how to address it.

Martha offers the programme in South Dublin to people on a one to one basis and works with adults of all ages and children.

Siobhán knows how critical it is to detect and correct poor breathing patterns (dysfunctional breathing) when they present at any age. She had her own issues as a child, teenager and adult until she found the solution in correcting her breathing pattern at 40 years old. As a child with upper airway obstruction, she had surgical intervention for adenoids and grommets; she also had narrow dental arches causing malocclusion of the teeth. At the age of 40, the constant alternating allergic rhinitis or nasal congestion, led to sinusitis and then repeated chest infections (leading to exercise induced Asthma as an adult). Siobhán came across the work of Dr. Constantin Buteyko through Patrick McKeown who for the first time in 30+years helped her to treat the root cause of her problem (dysfunctional breathing) and not just her symptoms (all of the above!)

Siobhán has many helpful tools that you can learn to use to empower yourself. So take the first step to better you or your family’s health, wellness or sport and get in contact below.

Leo Daniel Ryan MBPI

Leo’s passion and job in life is Health Performance Coaching in a one-to-one and small group based setting. HPC is described as a holistic approach to optimizing your lifestyle in order to achieve health, aesthetic and athletic goals. It’s focus is to improve the environment and the function of the human body to become healthy, happy and enjoy life. Leo has expertise in personal training, physical preparation, flexibility therapy and breath therapy. The main philosophy of Health Performance is to know that you are 100% responsible for your life – you have a choice to feel better.

More than 10 years ago, Leo was very sick with asthma. As a last resort for medical intervention Leo was referred to Dr. Richard Costello in Beaumont Hospital. It took 18 months to get the referral. In the meantime, Leo found the Buteyko Breathing Method. It had just arrived in Ireland and was being taught by Patrick McKeown at The Buteyko Clinic. Leo corrected his breathing and started the Buteyko exercises every day. Within 12 months, Leo became free of asthma symptoms. When he did get to see Dr. Costello, the doctor permitted Leo to gradually come off all his medication. In 18 months, Leo was asthma symptom and medication free.

Since that time more than 10 years ago, Leo has dedicated his life to finding methods which work efficiently at improving people’s health naturally. He has obtained a Master’s from UCD, worked with the world renowned Irish Strength Institute and interned with one of the best MD’s in the USA – Dr. Eric Serrano. Recently Leo became a Buteyko Method Instructor in order to improve the lives of his children and his coaching clients. He has begun to teach workshops on the method.

Originally from Ireland, Dara Coleman is a graduate of the William Esper Studio in New York City. He is an experienced actor with a demonstrated history of working in the performing arts industry, including the Theatre, Television and Film. After a car crash in 2012, through recovery he started researching meditation and various breathing methods. Exploring Transcendental Meditation, Pranayama, the Wim Hof Method and Stan Grof’s Holotropic Breathing Method, he began to understand the extraordinary power of the breath. At that time certified training was quite limited but eventually he found the Buteyko Method and was taught by Patrick McKeown of The Buteyko Clinic International, Galway, Ireland. With a keen interest also in Yogic practices, he added certification in Pranayama through Michaël Bijker of Yogalap (Yoga Alliance), Sagres, Portugal.
Through working with people from all walks of life, from musicians, to actors, to police, parents and business folk, all have helped to bring a heightened awareness that human beings often can have very different needs. With discipline and commitment, Coleman works with a holistic approach, paying attention to the 24 hour routine of Sleep, Diet and Exercise. He combines both the Buteyko Method and Pranayama and aims to adapt the breathing techniques and patterns that suit the need of each person he works with. He is interested in trying to help people with many conditions such as PTSD, ADHD, trauma, panic, mania and anxiety, stress and insomnia. Even with healthy individuals, many find they can take their lives to another level through learning and practicing conscious breathing.

As well as being a Certified Pilates Practitioner, she is also a certified Franklin Method Educator Level 3 and has recently added Somatic Training to her practice.
Breath is one of the founding principles of Pilates and is taught as part of the practice in every class.  Milena wanted to find a Breathwork that enabled her to teach her clients a simpler embodied approach.  The Franklin Method gave her the foundation of learning the dynamics of breathwork.  She then went on to study a degree in Psychology to understand the psychosomatic element of Breath work and when she found The Buteyko Method, this added the element of Biochemistry to her learning and the whole concept fell into place.

Milena now runs Breath-Work classes and Clinics from her Dublin based Studios & online.

Her particular area of interest is Stress, Panic Attacks, Anxiety Disorder, Depression & Insomnia for people at all stages of life.

Milena takes a very holistic view on health and wellness and believes that empowering clients to understand their own biodynamics will get better results and help clients live to their true potential.  She believes that everyone should understand how their bodies work, the reason behind pain and illness and how to become more resilient mentally, physically & emotionally.  The combination of Breathwork, Somatic Work & Movement can light the pathway for clients to become empowered & enlightened in their journey towards health.

Jennifer is currently completing her PhD in Dublin, and has an MSc in Occupational Therapy. In addition to a love of research, she is a keen musician and has experience teaching singing to both children and adults, which began her interest in the importance of the breath, and proper breathing practices. Outside of academia, she is a certified Hatha Yoga teacher, which further advanced her interest in breathing, and it’s impact on health.
