Bronwyn Lakay- B.Sc(Hons), M.Chiro, DSIT, DRM

Gold Coast, Queensland

Bronwyn’s journey began as a scientist, primarily researching the brain and then she became a massage therapist in 1996. Wanting to assist clients even more she embarked on becoming a Chiropractor by 2002. As a “people person” she delved into more aspects of healing and for many years participated as an Associate Instructor of Reconnective Healing around the world until her daughter arrived. Enjoying every moment of motherhood, also allowed her time to research and discover more ways of caring, serving and sharing with others. In 2018 she trained to become a Buteyko Breathing Facilitator – inspiring others one breath at a time. Having always loved both learning and teaching, she decided to embark on creating health and healing workshops accessible to everyone – to apply and share in our daily lives. She believes, “We are constantly evolving and adapting, and as we learn to share what we know, we continue to grow…”. Bronwyn continues to practise on the Gold Coast, Australia as an holistic Chiropractor, Massage Therapist, Healer, Buteyko Breathing and Wellbeing Workshop Facilitator.

australia RitaGoulart

Dr. Rita Goulart – Dentist

Gympie, Qld I’m interested in treating patients of all ages, with particular concern in children, to develop a healthy dentition and focus on creating beautiful faces. Identifying habits and problems early, such as thumb sucking, poor chewing habits, breathing problems, can avoid crooked teeth and not so attractive faces in children. And the earlier you detect those factors; more long lasting solutions are attained.

s haywardSally Hayward – Tropical Buteyko

I have lived in the northern tropical region of Queensland for over 40 years, aiming for a self sufficient, sustainable lifestyle, raising a family and now enjoying grandchildren. Over the years I have worked as an artist, painting the tropical environment and underwater seascapes of the Great Barrier Reef. I have spent many hours diving and exploring the wonderful reef around Cape York north of Cairns, while working in the tourism industry.Landscaping local gardens, teaching yoga and studying NLP( neuro -linguistic programming ) have all allowed me to gain a wide breadth of experience and appreciation of people. Personal health issues led me to Buteyko and to such significant improvement in my health and wellbeing that I decided I needed to learn as much about it as I could. Doing the teaching course with Patrick McKeown was great and I have felt really supported with access to so many online resources. I am researching and learning more every day. What I really love about Buteyko is that we have come to the basic fundamental relationship with our world, we breathe to live. I really value self reliance and personal responsibility and find The Buteyko Breathing Method so powerful and practising the exercises and breathing well empowers us to look after ourselves with as little medical intervention as possible. There is a real need for a Buteyko instructor in my local community and I am already busy. People respond well to simple, easy to understand facts and exercises. I am indebted to Professor Konstantin Buteyko who persevered for so long to give his Buteyko Breathing Method to the world. Thank you Patrick for being so accessible and generous with your experience and knowledge.

trudi bareham imgTrudi Bareham – Buderim, Sunshine Coast

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had this innate belief the body has the capability to heal. I love the idea of holistic health – treating the whole person, mind, body and spirit. Since 2001, I have explored, trained and worked in a variety of therapies including holistic massage, reiki, indian head massage, reflexology and Bowen Technique. Initially I took this path to help myself recover from debilitating headaches, intermittent back pain, and more recently RA & chronic late stage Lyme disease. By taking a proactive approach to my own health, I have had the immense pleasure of being able to help, support & guide other people to improve their own health also. Over the years, I have searched for easy and accessible ways to better health using the tools we have within us. Simplicity is often overlooked when it comes to improving health and breathing is perhaps the simplest, yet most profound way of changing health for the better. Nothing has improved my health more quickly and dramatically than Buteyko. The difference in just 4 days was astonishing, most noticeably, a big reduction in pain, swelling and inflammation. Living with and overcoming serious diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and chronic late stage Lyme disease, has afforded me the opportunity to share my knowledge via published articles in professional association journals, and in the recently published Stories of HOPE, Everyday People Extraordinary Stories, where I am one of twelve featured authors. I am very excited to bring Buteyko Breathing re-education courses to the Sunshine Coast, and look forward very much to sharing the extraordinary benefits to health, that Buteyko Breathing Method can bring.

Untitled 1Brayden Smith – Mackay, North Queensland

Located in Mackay North Queensland Australia, Brayden Smith has been working as a strength and condition coach, manual therapist and neuromuscular assessment specialist since 2013. After reading The Oxygen Advantage amongst many other books Brayden started to notice the epidemic of chronic hyperventilation that is spreading throughout our modern society. Combining the Buteyko breathe retraining method with all of Brayden’s past experiences as a manual therapist and strength and condition coach, Brayden has developed a very well rounded approach to health, wellness and performance. katie bonifaceKatie Boniface – Logan Village

Hi, my name is Katie. I am a naturopath, horse riding instructor and Buteyko breathing coach!

I work with entrepreneurs and family owned business owners who are struggling with anxiety and managing all the balls in the air trying to keep their business afloat.

We often see the pressures of business pushing us in to a more reactive space leaving us feeling like a duck treading water. We feel like we can barely catch a break and start to see the micro tears from the stress in our health, family relationships and business. That’s where I come in. And the horses!!

We help you downregulate your nervous system through nourishing herds, equine led heart connections and breathwork. Breathwork has an amazing ability to tune you in to your nervous system and connect better with others.

Making you more available to build quality relationships in your business and also allowing yourself to be present and attentive to loved ones and yourself. If you are struggling with stress, overwhelm, exhaustion and on the cusp of burn out let your breath, the horses and the plants create the space to find your center again.

Ciaran ImageCiaran McKeown BA, MA Counselling & Psychotherapy, FBPI

Ciaran McKeown learnt Buteyko in the early 2000s as a way of managing his asthma and anxiety. Impressed by the efficacy of the method he worked with his brother Patrick McKeown to incorporate it into his breathwork training and therapy sessions for over 15 years. During this time he has taught students with a diverse range of abilities and needs through voluntary and paid classes.

A registered counsellor and Samaritans volunteer, Ciaran believes that to be a good teacher, personal experience matters just as much as professional proficiency. He says that both are what enable you to relate to your students and find solutions that fit them.

For new students to the Buteyko method, particularly those who suffer from anxiety, he advises that they experiment with the exercises and treat the techniques as being a way to discover their breath rather than be overly demanding of themselves. At least for the first couple of weeks. This is why he prescribes every student with a unique plan.

What is Ciaran up to now? He currently teaches students and practitioners through one to one online and face to face classes.

IAN e1498744417188Ian Gill-Vallance

I have always enjoyed my sports especially surfing, snowboarding, swimming and sailing. At the same time working in a busy and at times stressful business environment, always driving myself to the limit. More recently I made a life change, and for the last 15 years I have been working with disadvantaged and people with disabilities. For most of my life I suffered from rhinitis, chronic asthma and other immune system deficiencies. In 2002, I was introduced to The Buteyko Breathing Training Program and within weeks I was able to reduce medication drastically, months later I only carried medication as a safety precaution. Buteyko had such a positive impact on my life, I now have a strong desire to spread the word and help as many people as possible Dare To Dream and actually enjoy a healthy active lifestyle. After researching all options I chose to study and train with Patrick McKeown at the Buteyko Clinic. I believe my qualifications and experience as a trainer/assessor and Surfing/Swimming Coach/Instructor, together with my personal Buteyko success story, will prove very beneficial in helping you to enjoy a full and healthy life style.

allankalamirDr. Allan Kalamir BSc., MChiro., PhD

Dr. Allan Kalamir is one of a handful of Australian chiropractors who hold a PhD. His research dissertation was on manual therapy and self care exercises for TMJ (jaw) disorder, which saw him collaborate with a number of local dentists who sent him their problem patients as trial participants. His work on jaw pain highlighted the significant effects of stress on clenching, headaches, poor posture, breathing disorders and behaviour; so it was natural for him to extend his interests to study the Buteyko method. He has held academic university posts in Australia; published a number of papers in academic journals, and presented award winning research at conferences in Europe, Latin America and the US. However his main passion is family practice, where he uses a combination of chiropractic and other therapies to treat a range of musculoskeletal and other disorders.

I am 54 years old and recently transitioned careers from a full-time mother of 4 children who are now mostly adults. I grew up on a farm in Northern NSW and as an adult lived in Hong Kong for 8 years. I’m now living in Surry Hills, Sydney. I have always been extremely interested in health and well-being both for myself, my family and friends. I have recently completed a Functional Nutrition course with The Nutrition Academy. I am fit and healthy with a daily yoga and meditation practice. I really enjoy helping and caring for others which I do part time at the moment, caring for children and the elderly. I am a strong believer in the ability for patients to heal themselves and not always resort to conventional medicine. To bring more awareness into your life, especially your breathing, is a powerful tool. Being an avid listener of Guy Lawrence’s podcast “Let It In” for many years, I came across Patrick McKeown and the common sense of Buteyko breathing. Its simplicity, powerfulness and many positive results have led me to want to share them.

Wellness has always been a passion of mine a career change and redundancy gave me the opportunity to pursue this passion. I Became a yoga teacher 14 years ago and then added Pilates and personal training 2 years later.

I taught Yoga and Pilates for many years but at the age of 68 I now teach mobility and posture classes for Seniors, where I combine many of the principles of Yoga, Pilates and fitness.Breath work was never a high priority until I came across Buteyko, this science based training I believe is the missing link and the vital link, to untapped wellness for all generations and so pertinent in the modern world.

I love the science and what a beautiful solution for a anxious world. To be able to rekindle people’s deep resonant connection to breath, and bring about a more harmonious connection to the world that surrounds us. I am not sure what path I take from here, but I am passionate about Buteyko and I wish to help and offer constructive support to people of all ages.

Anxiety, sleep, panic, depression and performance (for both physical exercise and in business) are the areas specifically that Stu is most interested in applying breathing re-education for teens and adults.

Stu feels it’s a privilege to help others in their quest for greater health. Showing them that it all starts with a simple light, slow and deep breath.

callan eacott imgCallan Eacott – Central Coast

A builder by trade but have now changed my efforts toward things I am more passionate about. Why the Buteyko Method? The Method answers a lot of questions that are otherwise are overlooked, Buteyko Breathing Principles can help you feel normal again but also help you perform at your best.

Why do I teach it? After learning it myself, I have seen excellent results in my own health from Ectopic Heartbeat, high blood pressure, anxiety, panic attack, low energy, adrenal fatigue, bad sleep, bad dental hygiene, poor digestion……., I felt helpless, and no one seemed to give any direction to fix these issues without drugs. Growing up surfing and around the ocean I understand breathing is very important!

Why learn from me? From experience I’d like to help others find direction through the endless symptom abyss!! I believe the more people that know breathing principles the happier and healthier we all will be. I focus on specific Exercises that are practical and focused on incorporating them into your day-to-day life.

I like to teach Anyone that feels their symptoms are taking over and are looking for answers! From children (including my own) to 90-year-olds (my own grandparents).

Estelle du Plooy.jpegEstelle du Plooy – Newcastle

Estelle and her family moved to Australia from South Africa in 2002. In 2012 they relocated to Newcastle from Brisbane. Her early career was in financial modelling and reporting in the mining industry. Estelle’s growing interest in health and medical science led to a change direction and she completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Newcastle in 2017. In order to use this knowledge in a more practical and client focus she recently completed her Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional Medicine). These formal qualifications inform her philosophy about health, nutrition, breathing and influence her yoga and movement teaching.

Estelle’s interest in breathing as a performance tool was sparked in 2004 watching the Olympic marathon runners. A commentator mentioned that some of the top runners have their mouth closed for most of the time and looks much more relaxed and recovered better compared to mouth breathers. She taught herself to run with her mouth closed – it is not easy! Around 2008 Estelle was lucky enough to meet a myofascial dentist in Brisbane who introduced her and her children to Buteyko breathing. Both children avoided having braces as teens due to the changing the way they breathed at the ages of 6 and 8 years old. She came across Brian Mackenzie and the Art of Breath and leaped on the opportunity to participate in a course when they visited Australia in 2015. She completed the XPT Life Performance Breathing coaching in 2020. By this time the benefits of better breathing were a hot topic for health. The Buteyko certification completes her breathing education and allows her to bring the benefits of better breathing to a wider clientele. Estelle is constantly researching a deeper understanding of the biochemistry of breathing and nutrition and strives to find practical ways to bring this knowledge to her clients.

Estelle is a qualified Clinical Nutritionist and Performance Breath coach. She teaches performance breathing in workshops and on individual basis. Breathing better during exercise can have flow on benefits on other aspects like sleeping and stress management. Dysfunctional breathing is both a driver and a consequence in many health conditions including anxiety, hypertension and asthma. Learning to breathe more efficiently can improve your stress tolerance. The effect can be felt immediately and are long lasting. A breath practice is easier to learn than other methods of stress management like meditation.

Wellness Advice Now was born out of a desire to literally put a health coach “in your pocket”. She consults the majority of her patients now fully online and has found a huge shift in compliance and health outcomes because of new conveniences in technology that make this possible.

Vashti’s own experience of panic attacks triggered by smoke in the harrowing 2019 bushfires coupled with the aggravating discomfort of wearing a mask during covid outbreaks that followed in 2020 inspired her to seek out a deeper understanding of how dysfunctional breathing affects all ages and has impacts beyond the lungs. The Buteyko Breathing method has offered an opportunity to add a wonderful new modality to her wholistic health and healing tool kit to support patients.

Vashti aims to deliver effective, simple and most importantly affordable health solutions to her patients. A strong desire to support the health of her local community lead her to a collaboration with Integrated Dental Clinic Katoomba to offer in person Buteyko Breathing group classes for children and adults.

bev 4Beverley Holt – Sydney

Beverley Holt – Health and Wellness Expert, Coach & Podcaster. Online clients as she is currently traveling around Australia in a Campervan.

Beverley is on a mission to help as many children as possible to resume optimum health so they don´t have to suffer the way she did and adults also as she has experienced the benefits.

As a child, she suffered from frequent bouts of bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, mouth and throat infections, and IBS.

Her jaw was too small and consequently had over-crowded teeth, overlapping teeth, and teeth growing behind teeth plus impacted wisdom teeth. She was a frequent visitor to her doctor and dentist and had many extractions which caused further gum shrinkage and more complications.

She started her career as a Registered-General and Pychiatric Nurse. She saw the look of fear in people’s eyes on the respiratory ward when they were begging her for more oxygen which she couldn´t give them. She naturally helped to calm them with breathing exercises and meditation.

At the start of the covid pandemic for two years she ran weekly health and wellness circles on Zoom to offer support and allay anxiety. Prior to this, she was running holistic events with exceptional health experts. As she wasn´t able to do live events she started doing Health and Well-Being Podcasts: www.mywellnessspring.co

Besides being a Buteyko Instructor, she is a Reiki Master and Teacher, Meditation Teacher, Crystal healer, Intuitive, Advanced PSYCH-K practitioner, Advanced Secrets of Natural Success Facilitator. Her expertise is stress management and prevention.

Through heart-based tools, Beverley helps people to connect with their true authentic selves, so they may shine in all areas of their life. She supports them on their journey back to greatness, helping them find their higher purpose and passion. “When we leave behind our dysfunctional beliefs you open the door for inner peace and happiness. When you focus on your truth-natural ability, and creative spirit you truly start living the life you deserve and desire”.

andre garraudAndre Garraud – Sydney

Growing up in the New England high country of Northern New South Wales gave me a great love of the outdoors.

My personal goal is to sustain Optimum Health by achieving and maintaining a positive and balanced mind-body. From a grounded, balanced state, my intent is to inspire others in their journey toward greater wellbeing.

Loving a good mind-body challenge led me to training for triathlons. During this time, I realised my breathing was suboptimal. Even though I thought I was training smartly, I was burning myself out. A good friend and colleague recommended doing some Buteyko breathing exercises to help alleviate my symptoms. This opened my eyes to how poorly I had been breathing, not only while exercising, but throughout the day and night. I was so moved by the power of simple breathing exercises that I wanted to learn more and decided to do the Buteyko Instructor Training.

Alternatives that lead to long term health and wellness.

Continuing her studies with the Australian Association of Orofacial Myology and with Patrick McKeown in the Butyeko method, she now offers broader solutions for those who want to take control of their own health. Mouth Function SA is here to service the people of South Australia who are looking for answers. While on contract in the USA, he discovered circus and has since then had a 30 year career as a circus performer. In an effort to maintain the physicality required in this profession he has sought out many alternative health practices.

His drive has always been to dig down into the fundamentals of how things work and this naturally lead into a 5 year exploration of different types of breathwork.

Beyond this was the search for simplicity in application and this culminated in his certification as a Buteyko instructor.

He runs events for men with the focus of instilling a sense of exploration towards optimal health and has a special interest in, though no limited to, sleep apnoea as it affects such a large proportion of men in the population.

Paul1Paul Rodriguez, CertBBM, FBPI

In Sydney, during 2016- 2017, Paul obtained a Certificate in the Buteyko Breathing Method with Buteyko Clinic International so that he could teachpeople the enduring health benefits of Buteyko Breathing. Paul had severe obstructive sleep apnea for many decades.

However, he only consciously became aware of problems with his sleep about 10 years ago. For many years he endured a lesser quality of life as he struggled with poor sleep and its adverse health effects. He regularly suffered headaches, had low energy levels, suffered a brief period of anxiety and depression and often found it difficult to concentrate.

Once Paul’s severe obstructive sleep apnea was diagnosed following a sleep study, he learned that the underlying cause of his sleep apnea related to his breathing.

After he completed a course in Buteyko Breathing Paul experienced significant improvement in his sleep and the ability to control his obstructive sleep apnea. The health benefits Paul obtained from changing his breathing has been permanent.

In 2017 Paul obtained further clinical training in Melbourne with the Buteyko Institute of Breathing & Health

In June 2018 he published the 2nd edition of his book “Breathless Sleep.no more”. The foreword to this edition has been written by Patrick McKeown.

In 2019 Paul was certified as an Applied Mindfulness Practitioner with the Australian Institute of Applied Mindfulness.

Tim HibbardTim Hibbard – Geelong, Surf Coast & Western Victoria

Tim suffered from asthma through his childhood, and it became more severe as he entered his twenties and thirties. Asthma was a serious issue, but his sleep apnea was now a major issue where he became nervous about going to sleep. Both issues culminated with two major hospitalisations. Surviving the first attack by luck as he only lived three miles from a major hospital, and the second, because of his own understanding of the Buteyko method and what he needed to do, when waking up in the middle of an asthma attack.

Tim noticed that a lot of his now middle-aged friends suffered from heavy snoring, sleep apnea, stress, and anxiety. Most friends thought it was just due to their excess weight and busy, stressful lives, but Tim understood it was more than that, and he wanted to help them. He spent time with some of these friends and helped them understand what they were experiencing and how they could significantly improve their sleep and health.

He really enjoyed the teaching and a single phone call from one friend, persuaded him to give up his 25 years of work in the International Transport Industry and start teaching Buteyko to anyone that would to listen. “Tim, you saved my life today”.

He really believes that it’s easier to understand and communicate with patients when the teacher has already experienced the same issues and conditions. An understanding of what clients are going through, what’s really behind their fear and communicating the Buteyko method through experience.

Tim has completed his Certificate in the Buteyko Clinic Method Training and helps children, teenagers and adults understand why they’re experiencing what they are, simplifying the theory behind how to fix it, and offering a step-by-step guide on how to fix it, and maintain it for life. He teaches one-on-one, and in small groups to maximise the communication with students.

DSC 6196Jen Barnett – Canberra

I’m committed to supporting folk in living the best lives they possibly can and my practice as a therapist has always reflected that. Like a lot of people who get to grow old (er..haha 🙂 I have done many things, from being an Educator to different natural therapies, including Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine and Massage. In more recent years I have focused on psychotherapy and am a qualified Gestalt therapist and a Psychodramatist, working both one on one and with groups. And now I am hugely pleased and proud to be a qualified Buteyko Breathing instructor. I recently undertook training in Ireland , thank you Patrick and feel excited to be in a position to expertly continue the knowledge transference around healthy ‘normal’ breathing that Professor Konstantin Buteyko has gifted to the world.

My work has always been with the ‘worried well’ and I see enormous value for almost everyone in understanding and utilising the principals of Buteyko. Breathing as we were born to breathe (nasally) and subsequently having efficient oxygen uptake by the tissues has enormous benefits . Of course people have to be bothered by some condition to commit to learning better breathing behaviour so I expect to see children and adults presenting with everything from asthma and other respiratory conditions like hayfever , anxiety and stress , sleep issues ( apnea and snoring) and almost any other condition where one of the symptoms is mouth breathing.

I myself have improved my own immune system to the extent that hayfever is a thing of the past and my tendency for a cold to turn into severe bronchitis highly unlikely.ln fact a cold can now be dealt with in a day or two. Breathing correctly brings harmony and peace to the spirit and contributes to the healing our dreadfully stressed planet is crying out for. I want to be part of that and I want you to be part of that.
