Jo is a Comprehensive Pilates teacher (educated by the internationally renowned Alan Herdman Pilates and Body Control Pilates), an Exercise Specialist in Chronic Respiratory Disease and Buteyko instructor based in central and north-west London, UK.
Jo was diagnosed with Asthma in her 20’s, as a professional dancer she needed to maintain her respiratory health and the diagnosis brought about an interest in breathing techniques to improve her symptoms, Patrick McKeown’s work had a huge impact on her.
In 2014, after suffering from Pneumonia she was diagnosed with the degenerative lung condition Bronchiectasis. Initially this had a significant impact on her quality of life. Her treatment plan included breathing retraining with a respiratory physiotherapist and this led her to train as an Exercise Specialist in Chronic Respiratory Disease which included a placement in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation department at St. Thomas' hospital, London.
Jo combines her comprehensive Pilates education, respiratory education and her personal experience to help other people with respiratory conditions to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
She has created a workshop 'The Vital Breath Workshop’ for movement teachers, educating them on how to work with clients with respiratory conditions and to increase awareness of breathing pattern disorders in the movement and fitness sectors.
She has delivered classes and workshops for Asthma Lung UK, PoTs UK, the Bank of England and Body Control Pilates.
Jo works with all age groups and various health conditions on a 1:1 basis and with groups of varying sizes.
The way we breathe affects the whole body, Jo uses breathing and movement strategies to improve awareness of breathing, reduce breathing dysfunction, increase performance and to improve general health and wellbeing.
