Patrick McKeown, BA, MA (TCD), Dip BM (Prof KP Buteyko), FBPI

Patrick McKeown is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and the Buteyko clinic of Moscow. He first applied the Buteyko Method to help with his own chronic asthma. After successfully reversing his condition, he decided to train to become an instructor so that he could help others. He was accredited by Professor Buteyko in 2002 and has worked full time teaching thousands of patients throughout Ireland at his renowned Asthma Care clinics. Patrick’s professional memberships include Full member of the Physiological Society and Academy of Applied Myofunctional Sciences. Patrick holds regular workshops and talks on dysfunctional breathing in nine countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, Israel, Denmark, France, Holland, the UK, and his native Ireland. He has trained Buteyko instructors from 32 countries and regularly provides Buteyko clinics in Dublin, Cork and Galway, Ireland.

His books ‘The Oxygen Advantage’,’Asthma Free naturally’ and ‘Close Your Mouth’ are best sellers in their fields and have been published in a number of countries and languages.

Darragh is a Health and Performance Coach from Ireland. He is a qualified Physiotherapist who has several years experience working with elite athletes in Professional Sport in England. He also owned and ran a Private Health Clinic in the midlands of Ireland focused on health and performance. He has transformed his own and clients health and performance in the last number of years using various methods, touting breathing reeducation as one of the most important finds for his professional and personal life.

He qualified as a Buteyko Instructor in 2015 and has recently qualified as an Oxygen Advantage Instructor both under the tutelage of Patrick Mckeown. Darragh now teaches what he has learned as a health professional and from his experience to help people transform their health and performance.

Karen Moylett – Ballina, County Mayo

Karen’s lifelong interest in health and well-being turned from passion to profession. She is a qualified Yoga teacher, Nutrition & Health Coach and has recently become a Buteyko breathing instructor. She is a well-being advocate and works with clients one-on-one as well as running corporate and group classes. Recently she has started to do zoom ‘watch & learn cooking classes.

I have always breathed predominantly through my mouth, something I never thought about until Karen in one of her Yoga classes instructed me to breathe through my nose instead. I was aware that Karen trained as a Buteyko Breathing coach and knew that she was knowledgeable in this area. Due to a busy lifestyle and career I felt I needed to spend some time on self-care so I decided to give Buteyko Breathing a go to help me feel less stressed and stay calm.

I visited Karen for a number of sessions during which she taught me that changing my breathing style can help me in my everyday life. Each session lasted for over an hour. Karen instructed me on four simple exercises, which involved only breathing through my nose with my mouth closed.I practised the breathing exercises for 10 minutes a day: in bed, while driving, cooking and even watching TV. These exercises helped me to breathe better and breathe more easily.

I learned to slow down my breathing and breatheless, which relaxed me and made me feel calm. The Buteyko methodoxygenates the blood much more effectively, maintaining the correct ratio of oxygen and carbon dioxide within the bloodstream, makingmy breathing more shallow, which wasespecially beneficial when I foundmyself becoming stressed or agitated. It takes practise and you need to be consistent to see results but after one month I feel that I’m less anxious, less stressed, more relaxed and definitely sleeping better.

I highly recommend Karen as a breathing coach as I have learned that breathing has a major impact on our day-to-day life, from sleeping to everyday performance.
