Kathleen Moran – Northern Indiana, USA.
Kathleen Moran is the epitome of careers colliding in a very strategic and intentional way – she dons many hats as a therapy director, writer, editor, and associate professor of composition. Kathleen earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature in 2011 and Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 2013. She practiced dental hygiene clinically for one year before seamlessly shifting focus to only treating patients with TMD, craniofacial pain, and sleep disorders, and Kathleen has been doing it ever since.
She earned a Master of Arts in English in 2017 while working full time. Kathleen applied the skills learned in the field to the modification of written and verbal patient education materials as a means of making the information more accessible. These abilities proved equally helpful in training other doctors and onboarding new staff as well. Her goal is to eliminate barriers so that others can internalize information, adapt it, and ultimately use it to better their own lives.
Kathleen became a certified orofacial myologist, COM, in December 2019. Much of her efforts go to helping patients with proper wound care and healing associated with lingual and labial frenectomies. She guides patients every step of the way and is actively involved from start to finish.
Overall, Kathleen does not regret her clinical transition from dental hygiene to her therapy emphasis. She cannot overlook the connection and overlap between TMD, craniofacial pain, and sleep disorders as well as those presenting with orofacial myofunctional disorders. Her training with Patrick McKeown and Buteyko Clinic International has helped to close that gap even more! Through her collaboration with other professionals and dedication to continued education, Kathleen helps patients establish and/or restore function to their lives. Never backing down from a challenge, this is her ultimate motivation!
