Alex Reid BA HDip Lic en Philo (Leuven)
Alex learned Buteyko Breathing techniques when he was affected by ‘late-onset’ asthma some years ago. He applied the exercises rigorously and successfully on reading Patrick McKeown’s books. He has since gone on to qualify as Instructor under Patrick’s tutelage in London. In his teaching career Alex was struck by the increasing number of young people over the years who suffer from asthma and actively encouraged physical activities like hill-walking and orienteering as antidote to modern sedentary habits. He is now promoting correct breathing and diet to supplement exercise and improve health and well-being.
Alex who resides in Donegal Town provides Buteyko clinics in the North-West and is also available to Schools, Sports Organisations and Staff Meetings to help bring the benefits of Buteyko Breathing to all groups and individuals in the area.
I have been training, teaching and working in the Martial Arts for over 38 years. Shortly after starting my journey, I developed a passion for teaching which has remained with me throughout my life. I started by helping those I found struggling around me and progressed to assisting in clubs, then taking my own club and from there, progressed to National coach, Country rep and now have become Chairman of our world-wide group.
I struggled in school, I was shy, had undiagnosed Dyslexia and had what was put across as “Nervous Asthma”. As a teenager, my life was turned around when I started Ju Jitsu classes and further enhanced when I deepened my knowledge of breathing, first correcting my own, then supporting others in their journey to better health, sporting performance and wellbeing. I work best in groups however do take a select few clients working predominantly online I work with children and adults with asthma, anxiety, sleep apnea etc. I love teaching and am passionate about helping others. I firmly believe that correcting your breathing has a massive impact on your life. I run events across Northern Ireland and travel internationally – I am happy to do free workshops for local charities – Please feel free to contact me.
Shane Mac Donnchaidh BA(Hons), PGCE, MA
Having suffered with severe asthma since childhood, Shane began learning the Buteyko Method in 2006 under Jac Vidgen of Buteyko Breathing Asia. He immediately saw a dramatic improvement in his health and a correspondingly dramatic decrease in dependence on medication. He was blown away by this first encounter with The Buteyko Breathing Method.
Some years later, Shane furthered his understanding of the method through a course with the Advanced Buteyko Institute, before going on to complete instructor training with Patrick McKeown and Buteyko Clinic International. It’s Shane’s mission to help bring the Buteyko Method to a wider audience so that more people can find relief from debilitating illness through this amazing natural method. Shane is available for group and private sessions online, at Excel Gymnastics Centre, Newry, and other venues as required.
A former international school principal and certified gymnastics coach, Shane combines his work as a Buteyko instructor with his work as a freelance education writer. He enjoys training Brazilian jiu jitsu and muay Thai in his spare time.
